Children who prefer to bring packed lunches will be accommodated in a suitable area.
All children in P1-5 are entitled to a free school meal.
If you plan to send your child/children to breakfast club, you should inform the staff of any medical dietary requirements.
Children and young people of parents/carers receiving Income Support, income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Working Tax Credit (where income is less than £7920*), Child Tax Credit only (where income is less than £16,500*), Universal Credit (where income is less than £7,320) and income-related Employment and Support Allowance are entitled to a free midday meal. All children are entitled to free milk, usually available from the cafeteria in the school during lunch period.
When children are in the dining room, the adults present will try to guide the children in their choice of food. Posters in the dining room too, will aim at informing children about healthy choices in their diet. There are tables available for children to eat their own packed lunches in the dining room.
At Sandwood , pupils choose their lunch at registration every day. This means that all pupils get their first choice from the menu.
Pupils who take lunch in school are expected to remain in the playground before and after eating. This is for their own safety. If parents want children to go home during lunch time, they should let the Head Teacher know by letter. Pupils must be collected from school office if leaving within the school day and signed out.
Children, who for medical or cultural reasons, have to follow a special diet, can usually be catered for. Please discuss your child’s special needs with the Head Teacher.
HEALTHY SNACKS
We have achieved status as a ‘Health Promoting School’, therefore we encourage children to bring water and healthy snacks to school each day. We welcome parental support with this.
