SUPERVISION OF PLAYGROUNDS  

  

An adult presence is provided in playgrounds at break times in terms of the Schools (Safety and Supervision of Pupils) (Scotland) Regulations, 1990.

At Sandwood Primary our janitor and 2 Support for Learning Workers are present in the playground from 8:45 a.m. During intervals and lunch times there are 11 Pupil Support assistants and our janitor present in the playground. In the event of wet intervals children remain in class. 'Playground' staff patrol the classrooms and corridors for the duration of these intervals.

We make every efforrt to maintain a full educational service, but on some occasions circumstances arise which lead to disruption. Schools may be affected by, for example, severe weather, temporary interruption of transport, power failures or difficulties of fuel supply. In such cases we shall do all we can to let you know about the details of closure or re-opening. we shall keep you informed by using letters, notices in local shops and announcements in local pMEDICAL AND HEALTH CARE

                                           

Routine hygiene inspections by the school nurse are no longer carried out. Parents are asked to check their child/ren's hair at least weekly.

All parents of Primary 1 children will be given the opportunity to dicuss any concerns with the visiting school nurse at Primary 1 appraisals which will be carried out during the course of your child's first year at school.

 

        Vision screening - will take place for all  pupils in P.1, P.4 and P.7

        Hearing - will be checked if required.

    Height - will be checked in P.1 and in other times if required.

     Weight - will be checked in P.1 and in other times if required.

 

Health Interview - will take place in P.7 and other times if required.

  Colour Vision - will be checked in P.7

      Dental checks - will be carried out at various times throughout the school year.

All P.7 children will be given the opportunity to discuss health issues with the school nurse.

 

HEAD LICE      

Head lice area common problem, however schools now do not use 'alert' letters. It is parents' responsibility to check their child's hair regularly. Please check your child's hair on a weekly basis and check other family members. It is helpful to us if you inform the school if you know your child has head lice.
