Asthma

As part of our Asthma policy we issue a reminder  to families each session regarding use and storage of inhalers.

Please note arrangements below:-

Reliever Inhalers (blue ventolin puffers)

  • Pupils in P3-P7 who require a reliever inhaler will be responsible for carrying these inhalers with them at all times.

  • Pupils in P1-2 who require a reliever inhaler will have their reliever inhaler stored in a box in the classroom which is looked after by the Class Teacher. The Class Teacher will have this box wherever pupils are in the school. This will be locked away at the end of each school day. PSAs will take the box of inhalers outside at break times.

  • ALL pupils must have spare reliever inhaler that the school will keep centrally as a back up.

  • ALL inhalers MUST BE CLEARLY LABELLED WITH THE PUPIL’S NAME AND CLASS.

All other Inhalers

Any other additional inhalers and medication that pupils require will be kept in a locked cupboard. Key staff are aware of the location and how to access should a child require this medication.

Points to Note

Parents are to keep a note when inhalers require to be replaced and send new inhalers into school. The school will also contact families if an inhaler has expired.

Please note that if your child does not have an inhaler in school and requires one as per their medical form, even if it is on rare occasions, they will not be permitted to attend outings.

Parents /Carers are to update the school immediately that there is a change to medication.
