The Nurture Group is an Early Intervention Initiative supported by Glasgow City Council. In Sandwood Primary School, it is known as The Enchanted Forest.

Our Nurture Group is staffed by Miss Young and Mr Bendix-Lewis (Support for Learning Worker) who have been trained in the Theory and Practice of  Nurture Groups.

All our staff engage with the nurturing principles:

1.  Children and young people’s learning is understood developmentally.

2.  The classroom offers a safe base

3.  The importance of nurture for the development of self esteem.

4.  Language is a vital means of communication.

5.  All behaviour is communication.

6. The importance of transition in young people’s lives.

These principles develop the understanding and commitment of all staff and their ability to work together to support children and young people.

Nurture is part of the development of our approaches to ‘Getting it Right for Every Child’. 

We also run an enchanted nurture group for targeted pupils who require additional support for their well beingin Heatherwood.  Quarriers also support wellbeing of  Identified pupils 2 days a week.
