Infection prevention (Home-School-Home)

Reducing Infection risk and keeping our school community safe.

If anyone in your household has symptoms your child should not attend school.

Everyone must follow the measures in place in our school to reduce the risk of infection and transmission and measures in place from NHS Public health.

Guidelines to follow:

Children will wash or sanitise their hands on entry and exit points, before and after eating and after using the toilet.

Children are not required to wear a face covering, however they can wear one if they wish.

School bags should be cleaned regularly at home.  They can be sprayed with a disinfectant spray or cleaning wipes (especially the shoulder straps/handles).

Children must not share their pens/pencils with others.

Lunch and interval arrangements will be altered.  There will be staggered lunch and interval breaks to minimise the contact between groups of children.

Where a child displays potential COVID-19 symptoms or feels unwell with suspected COVID-19 during the school day, the following steps will be taken:

  • Child will be kept separate from the other children within a designated area until a family member can collect him/her.
  • Parent/carer of the child will be contacted for immediate pick up from the school.
  • Parent/carer will be escorted to the P1 door / LCR door to collect their child.
  • First aider will sign the child out at our school office.
  • Door (isolation room) is to be left open for ventilation and so that child can be supervised safely from a distance.
  • Should the child be distressed and need comforted then the first aider should wear apron, gloves and face mask.
  • Any tissues/PPE/cleaning that have come into contact with a child displaying symptoms will be double bagged, labelled and stored separately for 72hrs until it can be placed in hygiene bin.

Where a pupil who has been attending the school informs the Headteacher that they have tested positive for COVID-19 then they require to self-isolate in-line with current Scottish Government and Public Health Guidance (for a least 10 days from when the symptoms started). Isolation is required for 14 days for all who either live or are in a support bubble with the infected person.

The child should not return to school until they have completed the required isolation period.

Children with underlying health conditions:

If your child is vulnerable due to an underlying health condition, you must contact the school to discuss any additional measures that can be put in place. Children with an underlying health condition must observe strict social distancing from other groups of children. Every day please check your children for new symptoms (new continuous cough, high temperature, loss of taste or smell), of course encourage your child to wash their hands regularly.
